LEARN TO EARN (LTE Pronounced ‘Light’) PROJECT
BACKGROUND STUDY
In developed countries like the United States of America and the United Kingdom most companies and businesses are owned by individuals (Entrepreneurs). This is much unlike the experience here in Nigeria where there is so much suffering due to mass unemployment. This is due to the high level of dependence on the Government which is not doing much to help the situation. There is therefore the need for the minds of our youth to be redirected and refocused towards entrepreneurship and self-employment.
All over the world, ICT is taking over everything and hence the daily increasing need for skilled ICT professionals. Also, ICT businesses can be started with little capital compared to other businesses; all you need is a computer system and internet access, as most ICT professionals work even from home. A majority of our graduates, even those graduated as computer scientists have just theoretical knowledge but lack the skill.
PROPOSED PLAN
Our plan is to train the youth and unemployed, give them the skill and empower them to be able to set up their own ICT-based businesses. Unlike most ICT training companies that train their students to be job seekers, our trainings will all be entrepreneur-focused so that at the end of the training period, participants will be empowered with laptops and internet modems with which they can start up their own businesses and possibly even become employers of labour themselves. Our training, will cover the following areas: Web design, bulk SMS business, Photography, graphics design and animation, computer repairs, maintenance and networking.
LAPTOP FOR EVERYONE (LFE pronouced ‘Life’) NETWORK.
A free laptop programme aimed at making laptops available for our best trainees for free. Also, we are providing very affordable laptops with installment or network payment options so that difficulty of owning a computer due to high cost of purchase can be greatly reduced.
eCERT ICT has a goal of making an indelible impact in the society by changing the mentality of our youth and unemployed from being job seekers to comfortable business owners and employers of labour.
